Human Before The Loop

The human and the human’s values belong before the loop, not in it.

The phrase reframes a familiar one. Human in the loop sits the human inside an already-running system — late, as a check on choices the code, data, and product decisions have already absorbed. By the time review happens, the values are baked in.

Human Before The Loop moves the human upstream. It treats the formation of the human — trained, situated, methodologically aware — as the variable that matters. Not as ethical retrofit, but as cognitive and cultural foundation.

This is a practice, not a position. It shows up in the questions asked before the prompt, in the methods carried in from the humanities, in the agents you build and how you build them.

The preposition is the argument: before, not in.
