Creativity is a Method

Creativity is a method, not a talent.

Origin: Thesis line. Counter to the creative-genius framing. Anchors the teachable-humanities argument.

Creativity is a method, not a talent.

The myth of the genius — the unpredictable spark, the gift you have or don’t — has done quiet damage. It positions creativity as ungovernable and unteachable, which makes it conveniently unaccountable. Brilliant when it works, mysterious when it doesn’t.

The practice of creative work tells a different story. It is method-bound: routines, constraints, prompts, returns, drafts, revisions, the discipline of starting again. Method is not the enemy of creativity. Method is creativity in its only sustainable form.

When AI enters this picture, the genius framing falls apart even faster. If the results can be generated, the process is the only thing left that distinguishes work made by a human from work that looks like it. The method becomes the advantage, the signature, the irreducible part.

Companion thesis lines:

  • “When AI can generate the results, the process becomes a human advantage.”
  • “Think deep. Do not surrender cognitively.”
